Over the past year we have seen more than ever how technology and social media have the ability to keep us connected, but how much is too much?

Although there are so many great things that come with technology, there are also many negatives impacting our daily functioning as well as ability to socialize we’re not behind a screen. This presentation targets some of the harmful effects of excessive technology and social media, and more importantly what we as clinicians and parents can do about it.

  • Identify some of the different ways we use technology and social media to socialize and what impact this has on us
  • Understand why are adolescents so susceptible to Internet and technology addiction
  • Learn to develop more balanced when it comes to our tech and social media intake

Michael is a licensed clinical social worker with experience working in various psychiatric settings, including inpatient acute care as well as a supervising therapist in an outpatient mental health and substance abuse clinic for children and adolescents. Michael is a licensed clinical social worker with experience working in various psychiatric settings, including inpatient acute care as well as a supervising therapist in an outpatient mental health and substance abuse clinic for children and adolescents. Michael has done more than 50 presentations in the community on the topic of social media and excessive technology use geared towards clinical professionals, school staff and parents. He was also a featured panelist in this year’s “Humanitech” series and interviewed by Behavioral Health Magazine on the topic of adolescent mental heath. Currently Michael works as Newport Healthcare’s clinical outreach specialist serving New York.
