Alec Spergel joins Anxiety Institute from private practice as a licensed professional counselor. Alec has worked with a wide range of adolescents and young adults who struggled with mood disorders, trauma-related disorders, eating disorders, and autism spectrum disorders. Alec’s specialties include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and existential therapy, with an emphasis on self-compassion, connection, and exposure-based techniques. Additionally, Alec’s experience teaching high school students both photography and videography taught him the importance of using creative expression as part of the therapeutic process.

Alec’s clinical approach uses a positive psychology framework, which builds on the humanistic understanding that supporting an individual’s strengths allows greater access to creating a life of meaning and purpose.

His Inspiration:

I am inspired by the power of creative expression to create new understandings of complex emotions. My experience utilizing a combination of cognitive, behavioral, and creative arts therapies has allowed me to make meaningful connections with clients and fostered genuine growth through self-acceptance and compassion.
