Omar Canosa, MD

Medical Director

BS, Florida International University // MD, UCE (San Pedro, DR)

Dr. Omar Canosa joins the Anxiety Institute with nearly twenty years of experience as a child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist. After earning his doctorate in medicine in 1999, Dr. Canosa completed his general psychiatry training at Temple University’s School of Medicine, with a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Drexel University’s College of Medicine in Philadelphia. From 2008 to 2014, Dr. Canosa worked for Atlantic Health’s Overlook Medical Center in Summit, NJ, where he spearheaded the evolution of an integrative and evidence-based pediatric eating disorder program.

Dr. Canosa is an integrative psychiatrist with a deep commitment to addressing both the symptoms and underlying challenges of anxiety and OCD, while promoting overall well-being for each client. His clinical interventions draw on a diverse range of healing traditions, allowing him to offer a multidimensional approach to mental health care that goes beyond just managing symptoms.

Through an approach rooted in a deep understanding of the unique developmental changes that occur during adolescence and young adulthood, Dr. Canosa recognizes that the brain undergoes significant neurological shifts during this critical period, affecting emotional regulation, behavior, and decision-making. His treatment strategies are informed by these developmental transformations, ensuring that each client's care is tailored to their specific stage of growth. In his role as Medical Director at Anxiety Institute, Dr. Canosa collaborates closely with the clinical team to provide medical insight and integrative guidance, complementing the psychological approaches used in programming and treatment. He consults individually with clients and families to discuss personalized medical treatment options, including medication management. His ultimate goal is to create a therapeutic environment that fosters healing, resilience, and long-term well-being for individuals struggling with anxiety, OCD, and related disorders.
