This workshop will highlight the negative body image crisis that plagues society. We will discuss the ever-changing body image throughout history, its implications to current-day perceptions of our bodies, and tools to shift those perspectives.

Learning Objectives

  • To gain an understanding of the ever-changing Western “ideal body” throughout history (over the past 100+ years or so).
  • To learn valuable tools to use with clients to shift negative perceptions of self and body image.
  • To gain a deeper understanding of the implications that external messaging places on the internal perception of self, as relates to body image.

Melanie Struble, LCSW, LCADC

Psychotherapist

Melanie, Owner of Body Positive Works, is a psychotherapist whose practice is dedicated to working with adolescents, adults, and families who are dealing with eating disorders, body image, substance addiction, and stage of life issues. A Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor with over 28 years of direct practice experience, she holds the highest New Jersey licensure in both disciplines. Melanie has worked with clients in a variety of settings: hospital, crisis center, private non-profit agency, and private practice. She has gained a broad perspective and deep understanding of the challenges her clients face when seeking specialized services from multiple resources.
