Pharmacotherapy of Severe Anxiety Disorders and OCD

Date

This course was held on January 23, 2025

Presenter

Omar Canosa, MD, Medical Director

Join Dr. Omar Canosa for an in-depth webinar exploring evidence-based approaches to tackle severe anxiety and OCD, with insights into overcoming barriers in treatment-resistant cases and enhancing clinical outcomes.

Anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorders (OCD) are among the most impactful mental health conditions globally, second only to depressive disorders in their effect on health and well-being. While many cases respond well to standard treatments, severe, complex, and treatment-resistant presentations pose significant challenges. These cases often involve chronic, relapsing-remitting courses, leading to profound distress and functional impairment that require more nuanced, individualized approaches than those outlined in standard treatment guidelines.

This presentation will explore the unique challenges of severe anxiety and OCD, focusing on evidence-based pharmacotherapy and psychotherapeutic approaches for complex cases. Through case scenarios, we will examine the barriers to successful treatment and highlight advanced strategies for improving outcomes. The session will conclude with actionable insights and a Q&A to foster a collaborative discussion among clinicians.

Learning Objectives

  • Provide a clinical overview of anxiety and OCD, including their prevalence, impact, and presentation.
  • Describe the key characteristics and differentiating features of severe, complex, and treatment-resistant anxiety and OCD.
  • Examine evidence-based treatment approaches, including pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy, across varying levels of severity.
  • Develop effective strategies to address the challenges of severe anxiety and OCD through case-based insights and practical interventions.
