In the treatment of anxiety and OCD, rigid efforts to control or eliminate unwanted thoughts and feelings can become part of the problem. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) offers a powerful shift—moving clients from avoidance to acceptance, and from control to meaningful engagement.
When integrated with Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), ACT equips clinicians with a flexible, values-based approach to help clients tolerate distress, commit to action, and live fuller lives in the presence of uncertainty. In this seminar, Dr. Stacey Dobrinsky will explore how ACT complements traditional exposure-based therapy by enhancing inhibitory learning, increasing psychological flexibility, and reinforcing values-guided behavior. Participants will learn how to integrate ACT principles into exposure sessions and broader clinical work with clients experiencing anxiety and OCD. The webinar will also review emerging research supporting ACT-informed ERP and provide actionable tools for clinical use
