High standards can fuel excellence in sport, but when performance routines become rigid, fear-driven, and compulsive, they may signal something far different than healthy perfectionism.

This workshop explores how OCD can masquerade as discipline in athletes, distinguishing adaptive high performance standards from clinically impairing rituals that hijack focus, flexibility, and execution. Attendees will examine key differences between OCD, perfectionism, and sport culture, learn how compulsions interfere with performance and identity, and gain evidence-based strategies for restoring freedom through ethical, sport-informed Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and contemporary OCD treatment principles.

CE credit(s) available for clinical professionals, psychologists, therapists, counselors, and social workers. See below for details.

Learning Objectives

  • Differentiate OCD symptoms from adaptive perfectionism and high-performance standards within athletic environments.
  • Identify how compulsive rituals and obsessional thinking can impair athletic performance, psychological flexibility, and identity development.
  • Apply evidence-based treatment principles, including sport-informed ERP and contemporary OCD interventions, to support athletes experiencing OCD-related performance interference.

1.5 CE credits will be provided by AKH Inc., Advancing Knowledge in Healthcare.

Please note:
CE credits are only awarded to attendees who participate in the live session. Watching a recording of the previously recorded webinar does not qualify for credit.
