Little Lives, Big Challenges: Treating and Diagnosing Pediatric OCD

Date

This course was held on October 15, 2025

Presenters

Hannah Doucette, PhD
Stacey Dobrinsky, PhD

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) can emerge in childhood, often presenting in complex and unexpected ways that challenge even experienced clinicians.

Early identification and intervention are critical for reducing the long-term impact of the disorder, yet pediatric OCD is frequently underdiagnosed or misdiagnosed due to overlapping symptoms with anxiety, autism spectrum disorder, and other developmental conditions. In this webinar, mental health professionals will gain practical, evidence-based strategies for accurately assessing and effectively treating pediatric OCD. Presenters will explore developmental considerations, diagnostic challenges, and the latest therapeutic approaches, with a focus on Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) and family-based interventions. Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of how to support children and families navigating OCD, and how to apply specialized treatment frameworks in real-world clinical practice.

CE credit(s) available for clinical professionals, psychologists, therapists, counselors, and social workers. See below for details.

Learning Objectives

  • Differentiate pediatric OCD from other developmental and psychiatric conditions with overlapping symptoms.
  • Identify early warning signs, symptom patterns, and common barriers to accurate diagnosis in children and adolescents.
  • Evaluate evidence-based treatment strategies, including Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and family involvement, for pediatric OCD.
  • Apply developmentally informed, practical interventions to improve treatment engagement and outcomes for children and families.

1.5 CE credits will be provided by AKH Inc., Advancing Knowledge in Healthcare.

Please note:
CE credits are only awarded to attendees who participate in the live session. Watching a recording of the previously recorded webinar does not qualify for credit.
