Colton Rigg joins Anxiety Institute as a Clinical Mental Health Counseling graduate intern at The George Washington University. He recently completed his first year counseling internship at GWU’s Community Counseling Services Center, where he provided individual therapy to clients from diverse backgrounds. Colton has also worked as a Direct Support Professional in a transitional living facility for adults with severe mental illness, offering daily living support and facilitating groups, and as a Behavior Technician supporting children and adolescents on the autism spectrum in developing social skills, emotional regulation, and independence.
Colton is excited to continue developing an integrative clinical perspective and is especially interested in Adlerian Therapy, which explores how an individual’s key life areas connect to their current concerns.
During his free time, Colton enjoys participating in activities that contribute to an optimal mental well-being, including spending time with friends and loved ones, engaging in sports, and prioritizing mindful relaxation at home.
His Inspiration:
Having grown up in a low-income community where mental health was neither prioritized nor easily accessible, I experienced how navigating challenging emotions and experiences often went unspoken and unsupported. This firsthand experience inspired me to dedicate my career to ending these damaging cycles and advocate for a future in which all communities, especially those that are marginalized, have meaningful access to care and support.
